I'm sort of starting a personal project regarding native folklore in Sabah. This is a project I've been planning to do forever, but just didn't have the time to do it due to work and study. Now my study is coming to an end, I'm taking the chance to start this, finally.
Here are some photos of my drawing process. Sorry about the photo quality; they were taken with my poor Xiaomi...
There're several sketches before this, but I settled down with this one. Had to refer to a lot of Borneo rainforest plants for the background.
I hoarded- I mean- booought a lot of Micron pens due to doing the Inktober challenge in 2016. I loved all of these pens though, and actually used all of them, believe me or not.
I bought a light sketchpad! It was on discount, so why not... Saves me a lot of time from erasing pencil lines after inking.
I actually got this on December 2016, but the post office returned it to the sender because they said I was a week late to claim it. I was sure I was only four or five days late, but oh well... Lazada resent it to me using my other street address and now I'm putting it into good use.
After I finally got the base line down, I proceeded to ink the background.
And couldn't stop myself afterwards.
I struggled with the mountain because I had little idea how the light would fell on the rocky surfaces. So I took a picture of Mount Kinabalu on Google and turn it into black and white and started inking. I still need to improve my strokes a lot, but I'm quite satisfied with the end result.
Here are some more details of the entire black and white illustration.
Another thing I noticed here is that Micron pen ink does not really blend well. You can see the marker stroke on the guy's clothing. But I can fix it up on Photoshop, and later color on the black with Copic later on. This whole illustration took me an entire day! Well, it didn't help I was binge-watching on Netflix while doing this. I'll have to stop multi-tasking in the future
I'll upload the illustration soon! And thank you for reading this. Anyone has any personal project as well?

Happy New Year 2018
Hi peeps. Time sure rolls fast and now it's 2018.
I had been neglecting this site for a very long time due to trying to build my Facebook page as well as my product page on Etsy and CreativeUnited.my. So far, I had been struggling to do both. Not only that, I've been busy on finishing my study, as well as participating in conventions (well, only managed to do two last year). The conventions were Otafuse and Hobbycon, both focused mainly on gaming and hobby cultures. This is also to get to know the whole atmosphere and what worked with my stuffs and not.
I also noticed I'm not doing very well in Hobbycon because it focused mainly on Japanese
Back from the Dead!
Hiyaa...
Seemed like I've disappeared from this website for such a long time. I've been overwhelmed with work and study stuff for weeks. Apart from that, my internet had been a pain in the ass... I couldn't upload anything at all. I had uploaded a lot of things on Instagram, because it's easier for me to access the platform rather than sitting down in front of my laptop, scan, edit/fix and upload artwork. But of course, I couldn't upload anything of higher quality on Instagram, so you can say I'm failing my social media game here.
I'll be working hard to upload more artwork now. Let's just hope I can get my shits together and be consistent!
Inspiration and Favorite Art Movements?
Hello guys
I'm just curious; what's your favorite art movement? Or if there's any art movement that influence your art style, or inspire you to make art?
I love Renaissance and Romanticism movements the most. I've been trying to incorporate some romantic elements into some of my illustration, but of course, it's not noticeable heheh. Most of my stuffs are pretty much illustrations rather than having a powerful meaning behind it. Still, i draw inspiration from Romanticism art from time to time, and tried to relay emotion more than worrying about perfection. I love the nature and sensitive aspect of romanticism.
So, what about you guys?
Two Versions in the End
I prepped two versions in the end
I felt the girl was smaller and hard to focus at, so I cropped the illustration to improve the composition. Thanks to a friend's suggestion, i added a bit more on the background, which was so empty before. Also, it actually fit a story in my folklore project. I learnt to not be too attached to the illustration, because i really need to crop it to improve it. At least, i liked it now than before. What do you guys think?
This is the original illustration.
Here's the cropped one.
In all earnestness, i actually liked the both of them now. I can't pick sides at all.
